- Talks began in 1969, between US and USSr
- By 1972 the first SALT (SALT I) treat agreed that both countries would limit their number of ICBMs
- SALT II, 1979; intended to accomplish nuclear parity but got interrupted by the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan
- 1980 Ronald Reagon became President and ended detente
Summary
The Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty, otherwise known as SALT I and SALT II during 1972 to 1974, included the US and the USSR having talks. The very first SALT treaty had occurred in 1972. This treaty was an agreement that both countries, US and USSR, would limit their amount of ICBM'S. Their intention was to accomplish thenuclear parity later on. Unfortunately, during the SALT II Treaty, the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan had then interrupted this treaty.
