The Burning of the Reichstag

- Dutch communist 'convicted of the crime'
- Hitler bullied (with the help of the Brownshirts) the Reichstag into passing the enabling act to face the coming 'communist revolution' (allowed him to make changes to in the parliament)
The Enabling Act
- Agreed to by the Reichstag in 1933 under threats from the brownshirts (S.A.)
- Only 93 Social Democrats voted against it
- Allowed Hitler to pass laws without consulting the Reichstag
- Despite the lack of freedom of speech or press Hitler only won 288 seat, barely a majority

SUMMARY
Hitler used violence and intimidation to take over control of Germany. He used the Brown Shirts so people would be feared by him and vote for him. The Munch beer hall Putsch was the beginning of his power and he was soon put in jail afterwards. He wrote Mein Kampf and became a large political figure in history.
