- Germany joins 1926-pulls out in 1933 because Hitler becomes to power
- Lack of enforcement (only economic sanctions, which wasn't enough)
- Too closely linked with the Treat of Versailles
- Nationalism too strong (big guys don't want little guys to tell them what to do. Hitler believed having a big army was Nationalism)

- League decides this conflict has no effect on Europe- ignores situation

Italian Occupation of Abyssinia (Ethiopia), 1935
- Italy had interest in colony since 1895
- Mussolini wanted to expand his empire (Imperialism)
- 1934 and incident is set up where Italians are killed

The End of the League of Nations
- League does not respond-Italy invades
- Economic sanctions threatened by League (to stop trade with Italy, but they are not face by it)
- Hoare-Laval plan gives most of Ethiopia to Italy if fighting stopped (French and British told them to stop fighting and they would give half of their country.)
- Plan undermines the league
- Signals end of the league (still exist until 1945)
SUMMARY
Early acts of appeasement can include both the Treaty of Rapallo in 1922, and also the Locarno Pact. The Treaty of Rapallo in 1922 had allowed German Soldiers to train in Russia. The Locarno Pact was to demilitarized the Rhineland and left them insecure.
